Deputy Padilla and K9 BOLO
Denver County Sheriff Department
Deputy Padilla has been with Denver County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years. She and her K9 partner BOLO have been working together for 5 1/2 years in the K9 Unit. BOLO’s specialty is narcotic and cell phone detection. He is a German Shepherd, 6 years of age.
We are currently working on increasing BOLO’s stamina through a strength and conditioning program. BOLO’s work environment is very unpredictable and challenging which requires him to be in optimum condition. Our GOAL for BOLO is injury prevention. He has previously had an injury to his right hind leg and thanks to his conditioning, this injury does not limit his performance.
Deputy Jones and K9 Koda
Denver County Sheriff Department
Deputy Jones has been with Denver County Sheriff’s Department for 21 1/2 years. He and his K9 partner Koda have been working together for 5 1/2 years in the K9 Unit. Koda’s specialty is narcotic and cell phone detection. She is a Belgian Malinois, 6 years of age.
We are currently working on increasing Koda’s stamina through a strength and conditioning program. Koda’s work environment is very unpredictable and challenging which requires her to be in optimum condition. Koda has been fortunate to not have sustained an injury to date. Our GOALS for Koda are injury prevention and maximizing her overall fitness to exceed her daily activity requirements.
Deputy Uhrlaub and K9 Tuco
Deputy Uhrlaub has been involved with law enforcement for over 25 years, currently as a handler and trainer. He and K9 Tuco have been working together for the last 7 years. Tuco is certified in both patrol and narcotics and is one of the last remaining dogs in the Denver area trained on Marijuana, which is still illegal in schools and jails. Tuco is an 8 year old Dutch Shepherd.
Tuco is showing the signs of an older dog and is recovering from a leg injury. We are currently working on improving his stamina and overall strength to keep him healthy and able to work.
Deputy Trujillo and K9 Boomer
K9 Boomer loves chasing birds in the backyard and visiting his fellow employees that he protects at the courthouses.
Deputy Nicholson and K9 Gunner
Deputy Nicholson has been with the Denver Sheriff’s Department since 2016. He and his K9 partner Gunner have been working together for (2 years) since 2021 in the K9 Unit. Gunner’s specialty is narcotics and he is also a member of the Emergency Response Unit of the Denver Sheriff Department. He is a Hungarian Vizsla born September 2021.
We are currently working on increasing Gunner’s stamina through a strength and conditioning program. Gunner’s work environment is very unpredictable and challenging which requires him to be in optimum condition. Gunner has been fortunate to not have sustained any injuries to date. Our goals for Gunner are injury prevention and maximizing his overall fitness to exceed his daily activity requirements.
Deputy and K9 Ulitimo
Ultimo is dual purpose working K9 for a sheriff’s office in the Denver metro area. Ultimo started with the sheriff’s office in September 2022 and is certified in narcotics, apprehension, building searches, and area searches. Ultimo is a four year old German Sheppard from Germany and he weighs 85lbs. Ultimo’s passion to work shows every day when his handler opens the front door of the house; he spins, barks and jumps. Ultimo starts the day socializing with deputies and then hitting the field for a session of obedience. In Ultimo’s short career he has found about 18lbs of narcotics and has had seven non-physical felony apprehensions.
Ultimo’s handler has been with the sheriff’ office since 2016 and she started with the K9 unit in 2020 as a decoy. Ultimo is her first K9 and we are working on building Ultimo strength and stamina through a strength and condition program. Ultimo is the largest dog on the team which can be hard on his body during his unpredictable work shift and his rigorous trainings.
Deputy and K9 Paul
K-9 Paul is a 12-year-old German Shepherd who joined the sheriff’s office in 2015 and retired in 2023. He was certified as dual-purpose patrol/ narcotics detection canine and assigned to the SWAT team. During his career K-9 Paul assisted with the apprehension of numerous dangerous criminals and taking illegal substances off the street. K-9 Paul’s presence on scene would often lead to a suspect’s peaceful surrender. While at work K-9 Paul kept his handler and fellow deputies safe. K-9 Paul was fearless at work and loved his job.
K-9 Paul retired due to a torn ACL. After getting it repaired we did the recommended therapy with little results. Then a friend referred us to Stevan at Sierra Peaks. Stevan put together a program for K-9 Paul. Thanks to Stevan and his staff K-9 Paul is enjoying his retirement. People constantly comment on how well K-9 Paul gets around for his age.
Trooper and K9 Scout
K9 Scout is a four year old German Shorthaired Pointer. He is trained in explosive detection and looks for bombs, guns and shell casings and is currently training to become certified in tracking. For the last three years he has worked for the Colorado State Patrol Executive Security Branch along side his handler, Trooper Crystal Crenshaw.
